Days 1

Flight to Lyon, transfer and reception at the Royal Lyon Hotel

Our group will depart from Dublin to Lyon on Aer Lingus. On arrival, we will be whisked to our Lyon hotel. You’ll find the 5* Royal Lyon Hotel right at the heart of the city. It was formerly the residence of a grand family and its architecture stands as testimony to this. Its restaurants are among the finest in Lyon. They are run by students of the Paul Bocuse Institute. Bocuse is one of the most highly-regarded chefs in France and his students master the classics of French cooking. After checking-in, we will enjoy an arrival reception of drinks and canapes.
Day 2

Guided Tour of Lyon & Wine Tasting Chateau De Pizay

After breakfast, we will set off on a city tour of Lyon, where we will explore Vieux Lyon, the city’s medieval heart which is a recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site. After our city tour of Lyon, we travel to Chateau de Pizay, an award winning winery in the Beaujolais wine region, where we will enjoy some tasting and a magical tour of the Chateau. We will arrive back to our hotel in the early afternoon and the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 3

Explore Lyon

This is a day to spend discovering the delights of Lyon at your own pace. Explore Old Lyon, where it’s cobbled streets and traboules – or narrow passageways – are full of surprises. You’ll find grand palaces alongside bustling shops, bars and restaurants here. The hillside near the Fourvière district is where the Romans established their capital city of Gaul. An amphitheatre still stands here, echoing the city’s ancient past. La Croix-Rousse is where the silk weavers lived in the 19th century and it’s where the young and fashionable live today. You’ll feel like a local as you stroll through its squares, winding streets, chic shops and markets. The area around your hotel is the centre for high-end shopping and museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Textiles. All of this sightseeing is bound to make you hungry so make sure you make some time to eat. Lyon is the gastronomic centre of France after all, home to many Michelin star restaurants. Then, there are the bouchons, or traditional taverns which serve regional specialities such as coq au vin and andouillette – a sausage of coarsely-cut tripe – along with local wines.
Day 4

First Class TGV to Nice and check-in at Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée

After breakfast, we will enjoy first class TGV train travel through the countryside of Provence to Nice. On arrival in Provence, we will be driven to our Cote D’Azur hotel, The 5* Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée. Its location on the legendary Promenade des Anglais means that it has an unrivalled view of the Bay of Angels and the azure blue waters of the Mediterranean. After checking-in, we will enjoy a reception of drinks and canapes, overlooking the bay.
Day 5

Trip to Villa Rothschild in St. Jean Cap Ferrat and the Principality of Monaco

This is an opportunity to see how the jet set live. Our first stop is The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. This was built between 1905 and 1912, just as the Mediterranean coast was becoming the Riviera, and it oozes the beauty of La Belle Époque. The entire villa evokes an Italian palazzo. The rooms are sumptuously decorated. There are priceless porcelain collections and nearly 5,000 exceptional works of art and pieces of furniture. There are nine gardens, each with their own theme and adorned with patios, fountains, ponds, flowerbeds and plenty of shaded paths for walking. After being amazed by the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, we set off for Monaco. Standing on a rocky promontory and known as ‘le Rocher’, picturesque Monaco-Ville is still recognizable as a medieval village, full of pedestrian streets, passageways and old houses. There are many attractions worth visiting, including the splendid marble and gold Prince’s Palace, where the Grimaldi family have resided for centuries. The Romanesque-Byzantine cathedral, where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier were married and the Princess is buried.
Day 6

Free day to explore Nice

Soak in the glamour of Nice on your last day in the city. Take a walk along the Promenade des Anglais with its palm trees, beach, restaurants, cafés and boutiques and you’ll soon understand just why this city proved to be so attractive to the aristocrats who began visiting from the 18th century onwards. You might also see what attracted world-famous artists including Chagall, Picasso and Matisse. The clean air and soft light attracted these painters and their work is still to be seen in Nice’s many excellent museums and art galleries. The old part of Nice (Vieux Nice) is full of dark, winding alleyways and squares that host food, flower and flea markets. If you’re hungry, don’t miss out on the pedestrian street that runs parallel to the Promenade. This is where some of the city’s best restaurants are located.
