Slatterys are delighted to present details of its 15th season of holidays to South Africa.
The sweeping grandeur of the scenery, the breathtaking beauty of the coastline, the beaches and the incomparable wildlife make South Africa one of the world's foremost destinations. The Irish Travel Trade recently voted South Africa the best long haul destination. This award recognises South Africa's outstanding value, diversity and beauty as a holiday and travel destination. There are so many reasons to visit the "World in One Country". We look forward to bringing you there. We can offer a full range of holiday options in South and Southern Africa, including hotels, guesthouses, self-catering, golfing, safari, escorted tours and car hire. While there are climatic differences across the country, South Africa is a good year round destination. The Cape and Garden Route have a Mediterranean-like climate, with summers from October to April. KwaZula-Natal is sub-tropical, while the Kruger has hot summers and pleasant winters.

NIALL MELLON TOWNSHIP FUND
Slatterys is pleased to be supporting the Niall Mellon Township
Challenge. We will be making a donation to the Challenge for every
person booked with Slatterys on our direct Dublin to Cape Town service.
The aim of the foundation is to build good quality housing at a
reasonable cost, replacing the urban shack dwellings in which thousands
of South Africans have to live. It has given hope to millions of people
that they themselves can be the solution to their harsh living conditions.
THE NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN'S FUND
Slatterys is proud to be a benefactor to The Nelson Mandela Children's
Fund. Our car hire partners Europcar have been appointed as the official
benefactor within the car rental and tourism industry. A percentage of
each and every car rented through Slatterys is donated to The Nelson
Mandela Children’s Fund, developing projects that will ensure future
employment opportunities and prosperity for the people of South Africa.
AMAKHALA CONSERVATION CENTRE
AMAKHALA GAME CONSERVANCY
Amakhala Conservation Centre was founded in 2003 and at present, this
Centre is funded by bed levies from the lodges within the Amakhala Game
Reserve. The ACC provides environmental education to the Xhosa speaking
schools of the communities surrounding area. The programme is designed
as a series of "building blocks" so that each time the children visit we
build on what they learnt previously. Environmental or Biology Clubs
from poorer rural schools also visit and are given the opportunity to
learn about the environment is a practical way.
In collaboration with various tertiary educational institutions a number
of research projects are also carried out on Amakhala. The Amakhala
Conservation Centre's current project, the 3C Project is the biggest
conservation project, incorporating:
CARBON
Paying back our carbon dioxide debt through the planting of indigenous
trees.
COMMUNITY
Involving local communities in the scheme and allowing them to benefit
from the tree planting. Ispho Aids Haven and Reed Valley School
benefited from the scheme through the planting of trees on site to
provide shade.
CONSERVATION
The project will plant a 25m corridor to a mixed indigenous forest and
woodland with the range of species reflecting the ecology of the location.
This will also incorporate a number of local high value hardwoods,
medicinal species, species suitable for raptor and vulture nesting sites
and species suited to options such as bee keeping.
